Villa Cordellina Lombardi in Montecchio Maggiore is one of the most prestigious wedding venues in the Vicenza area.
A historic villa in Montecchio Maggiore, just a few kilometres from Vicenza, surrounded by a large garden and defined by elegant, symmetrical architecture that makes it instantly recognisable. But when I photograph a wedding here, I am not interested only in showing the grandeur of the venue. What interests me is telling what happens when these spaces come alive with people.
A wedding in a Venetian villa
Villa Cordellina was built in the 18th century to a design by Giorgio Massari and its main hall features frescoes by Giambattista Tiepolo. The façade, the avenue, the gardens, the historic wings and the interiors offer very different settings. During a wedding, this means constantly moving between monumental spaces and intimate moments: guests arriving, people meeting in the garden, a quiet moment between the couple away from the reception, dinner inside the villa or the evening party. It is this constant change of atmosphere that makes photographing a wedding here so interesting.

My approach is based on reportage. I do not create situations or take the couple away from their guests simply to produce photographs. I observe what happens: the people, the relationships, the reactions and all those small moments that the couple often does not even notice while living their wedding day. A venue like Villa Cordellina also allows me to alternate between the human story and the setting itself: sometimes the people are at the centre, while at other times the villa becomes part of the story. The result should be a complete visual story, not a series of constructed images.

I did not want to show only the couple, but also the spaces, the guests, the details and the way the atmosphere changed throughout the day.
